Twinning Association

The Association was formed in 1987. Corbie is a town in Northern France, near Amiens and Albert in the Somme district.

The then mayor of Corbie, Jean Truquin and Keith Rowe, the Mayor of Pickering signed the Seal, which amongst its declarations states:-

"...to maintain permanent bonds between our two municipalities, to promote exchanges of all kinds between their inhabitants with the aim of fostering, through greater mutual understanding, the true spirit of European brotherhood;

…to combine our efforts in order to further, to the greatest extent within our power, the success of that essential undertaking for peace and prosperity: European unity."

Since the beginning, visits have been exchanged with a great deal of success and have been enjoyed by those who have taken the opportunity. For our part, the hospitality of the people of Corbie is liberal and one leaves with the feeling of never being able to return the generosity. We have seen much of the way of life of the "every-day" Frenchman and that is really all they wish of us.

We do hope that each time Corbie visit here, or we visit there, we might be successful in linking different groups - artists, farmers, businessmen, shopkeepers and hoteliers, sports groups, and any organisation you could think of.

Speaking French or not speaking French is not always a problem; however, it does of course help. But the lack of language is never the excuse for lack of communication.
